In 1949, Finland held a designing competition for a boat for the Scandinavian
Single-handed Championship, and this boat was also to become the new Olympic
single-handed dinghy. The dinghies that finished first, second and third in these trials
were eventually not chosen; instead they preferred the Finn design by Rickard Sarby

The Finn was built in Holland in 1958 using the "cold molded" method of construction.
Back then they referred to this as "hot molding."
